Golf & Disc Golf
Tallahassee’s rolling hills and towering oaks make it one of the Sunshine State’s most picturesque golf destinations, while it’s temperate climate means it’s easy to enjoy a day on the links throughout the year. Greens fees are affordable, tee times are easily reserved and Florida’s Capital City offers a wide variety of courses for you to enjoy.
At Capital City Country Club, Tallahassee’s most historic course welcomes golfers of all skill levels to 18 holes designed by A.W. Tillinghast and set within sight of the state’s towering Capitol. It’s also just a short stroll from Proof Brewing Company, the city’s largest craft brewery.
The north side of town boasts Killearn Country Club, a wide-open tract weaving through one of Tallahassee’s largest neighborhoods. Keep an eye out here and you may catch a glimpse of legendary football coach Bobby Bowden, whose home lies along the 7th hole.
Down south, a course named after another football legend, Jack Gaither, offers adventurous holes tucked into a quiet setting nearby to Florida A&M University where he once coached. Also on this side of town is Southwood Country Club, where a Fred Couples-designed course sits within a planned community with some of the city’s most sprawling views.
For those who prefer discs to clubs, and who choose to aim for the chains rather than a flagstick, Tallahassee is a golf destination like no other. Really, it should come as no surprise that such a family-friendly city is home to disc golf opportunities perfect for all ages, but even for those familiar with Florida’s Capital City, the quality of the offerings here may come as a shock.
Tom Brown Park’s 24-hole course ranks among the top 100 Disc Golf Courses in the World following a redesign by local legend Dave Muntean in 2017. From wooded areas to wide-open fields, the course twists and turns throughout this beautifully manicured environment, making it the premier course in all of Northwest Florida.
On the other side of town, Jack McLean Jr. Park offers a more technical course that will test your precision as it wraps around tall pines and ancient oaks.
The city also offers multiple places to pick up new discs, including used gear at Play It Again Sports, new gear at Academy Sports, and a wide selection of discs served up alongside incredible ice cream and handmade soda fountain creations at Lofty Pursuits, a Tallahassee icon.
