    Mission San Luis served as the seat of power for the Apalachee people and the western capital of Spanish Florida from 1656 – 1704.   • Hernando de Soto State Archaeological Site

Micro Theater Festival: A Celebration of Hispanic Creativity
Tallahassee’s Micro Theater Festival returns for its 8th year on August 8–9, 2025, at the Goodwood Museum & Gardens. This event features a series of short, 15- to 20-minute plays by Hispanic playwrights—some of which are translated into English for the first time. Guests can enjoy a mix of thought-provoking and entertaining stories while sampling authentic Hispanic food, drinks, and live music. The festival provides a fresh look at the diversity and creativity of the Hispanic community in a lively outdoor setting.

Blessing of the Animals at Mission San Luis
Held on the first Saturday in October at Mission San Luis, the annual Blessing of Animals is a special event that celebrates the bond between people and their pets. As the site of a 17th-century Franciscan mission within the Apalachee province, Mission San Luis carries on the tradition of the Blessing of Animals, which began in the 13th century in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment. Guests are encouraged to bring their furry, feathered, or scaled companions to receive a personal blessing.
