Javacya Elite Chamber Orchestra - Season Finale 2026

The Javacya Elite Chamber Orchestra and the Javacya Elite Chamber Quintet close their season on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Peter’s Anglican Cathedral, featuring violinist Phillip Rumlin Bond, the orchestra’s former concertmaster, in a homecoming performance. Admission is free.

In the year America marks 250 years, the program joins two composers across that span. Franz Joseph Haydn was already shaping the sound of the classical era when the nation was born in 1776. Florence Beatrice Price carried that tradition forward on American soil — she was the first African-American woman to have a symphony performed by a major American orchestra, when the Chicago Symphony premiered her Symphony No. 1 in E minor in 1933.

At the center of the evening is Price’s rarely performed Piano Quintet in A minor. The work was nearly lost to history. It sat unknown for decades until a trove of her manuscripts was discovered in 2009 in her abandoned summer home outside Chicago. Tallahassee audiences will hear it live — an experience few concert halls anywhere can offer. The program also includes her beloved Adoration, a short work of quiet devotion that has become one of the most cherished pieces in the violin repertoire, alongside works by Haydn.
