At Japanica, three generations raised on foods with traditional Asian flavors have come together to blend their respective talents that have been refined both in Asia and America. Members of the Li Huang family, originally from a small fishing village on an island in Southeastern Asia, worked as chefs for several Asian restaurants in Chicago where they developed and enhanced their distinctive cooking styles. During this time, they also began their search for a place where they could serve their own food reflective of their unique backgrounds and experiences. In 2008, they moved to Tallahassee and opened Japanica Steakhouse & Sushi Bar in order to provide the Panhandle with a distinct taste of the East. Today, Japanica is a restaurant praised among locals as one of the finest Japanese and Asian cuisine establishments in the general vicinity. Whether the dining choice is the always-entertaining Hibachi, the sushi which has been described as the freshest in Tallahassee, or a one-of-a-kind, multi-course meal prepared after consultation with Chef Ivy, the family at Japanica provides a fresh take on foods of Far Eastern heritage alongside a relaxed, thoughtful dining atmosphere.
