TALLAHASSEE, FL — The Javacya Elite Chamber Orchestra, under the visionary direction of Drs. Patrice Floyd Ralph and Jean-Paul, in collaboration with Dr. Elizabeth Delancy and the Albany State University Dance Company, will present a Pre-Homecoming Celebration Concert on Thursday, October 10, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at Lee Hall Auditorium, Florida A&M University.
This year’s program carries special significance, as Javacya’s Music Directors welcome acclaimed composer and vocalist Darryl Tookes to perform two of his stirring original works—live and in person.
🎶 The Evening’s Program Will Feature Works by:
Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges
George Gershwin
Chris Brown
Darryl Tookes
and others
Each piece will be reimagined through dynamic choreography and spoken word, breathing new life into beloved compositions. Tookes’ live performance will be accompanied by contemporary movement, creating a visceral, immersive experience. Members of the FAMU DRS Summer Dance Academy will also contribute their artistry to this vibrant celebration.
A standout moment includes a popular new work by Chris Brown, featuring infectious rhythms and choreography that promise to have the audience dancing in their seats. Additional selections will fuse orchestral brilliance with narrative and motion, offering a rich tapestry of sound and story.
“We’re thrilled to open Homecoming week by weaving together diverse art forms,” said Dr. Patrice Floyd. “This concert invites the audience into a conversation between history, rhythm, and story.”
“Partnering with Javacya’s musicians allows our dancers to step inside these compositions—becoming living, breathing extensions of the music itself,” said Dr. Elizabeth Delancy. “We can’t wait to share this experience with the FAMU community.”
