The Askew Student Life Center (ASLC) is a hub for entertainment and events at Florida State University, where visitors can see everything from a recent blockbuster movie to a documentary, independent, foreign film, or a restored cinema classic at the Student Life Cinema; play games at one of the Garnet Gaming Lounge’s high-performance PC gaming stations, play a board game, or select from a variety of ceramic pieces to paint or glaze at Paint-A-Pot which also offers a to-go option.

Common, a Grammy, Emmy, and Academy Award-winning artist and @famu_1887 alumnus, will perform with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra (TSO) at The Adderley Amphitheater on Saturday, November 14, 2026. Today, Tallahassee commemorates Emancipation Day. On May 20, 1865, General Edward M. McCook declared the Emancipation Proclamation in effect from the steps of the Knott House in downtown Tallahassee, and newly freed citizens gathered at Bull`s Pond (now Lake Ella) in joyful celebration.
This important tradition continues to this day at the Knott House at 11:30 a.m. for a special program and reading of the Emancipation Proclamation, followed by a free lunch and activities in Lewis Park. All are welcome.
