Your Taste Buds Will Love Tallahassee

By Visit Tallahassee

Hungry? Thirsty? Starving for something different? Tallahassee’s food scene has you covered. In every corner of Florida’s Capital City, food trucks, restaurants, cafes and eateries of every shape and size abound, each offering something different for you to enjoy.

Craft Breweries

Nothing pairs better with delicious food than a pint, or a flight, of deliciously craft-brewed beer, and nowhere does craft beer quite like Tallahassee. Proof Brewing Company’s beloved EightFive-O and Mango Wit are available in cans and on tap all around town, as well as in the brewery’s sprawling taproom & biergarden. Deep Brewing Co. (inspired by its owner’s former profession as a deep-sea diver), Lake Tribe Brewing Company (named after the co-owners’ scout troop as kids) and Ology Brewing Co. (dedicated to the science of brewing) all ensure there is a brew to fit your palate. All offer delicious brews ranging from hop-forward IPAs to dark and roasted stouts served in comfortable taprooms that are perfect for sitting, sampling and soaking in the atmosphere.

Lucilla

Just off Apalachee Parkway on Old St. Augustine St., Lucilla is one of Tallahassee’s newest culinary gems. Opened by a couple who met at Andrew’s 228 in downtown Tally, the menu here is American comfort food with a Creole and Southern twist, and it’s just as delicious as it sounds.

Midtown Eateries

The thriving Midtown area is home to some of the city’s best restaurants, bars and nightlife. These include Kool Beanz, an upscale eatery with a decidedly laid-back vibe, the cozy comfort food of Jeri’s Midtown Café, and Waterworks, a tiki bar that seems to have been transported from the South Pacific and offer a taste of the tropics, and many other options all within easy walking distance.

Backwoods Crossing

On the east side of town just off I-10, Backwoods Crossing is a true farm-to-table restaurant run by two brothers who grew up in the area and know its local produce, seafood and livestock best. From soft shell crabs and smoked sausage to locally harvested blueberries and eggs fresh from the chickens in the on-site coop. There’s even a 3.5-acre farm on the restaurant’s property, and a Garden Creations menu that changes weekly depending upon what Mother Nature (with the help of local farmers) blesses the restaurant with.

Have Something on the Half-Shell

With Apalachicola so close by, it’s no wonder Tallahassee is home to some of the freshest oysters around. Shell Oyster Bar, a local staple since 1945, serves up fresh oysters in a simple, no-frills restaurant treasured by local seafood fans. Meanwhile, Bird’s Aphrodisiac Oyster Shack takes a decidedly more modern approach, serving the same delicious oysters, but with a side of live music, karaoke and plenty of outdoor seating to boot.

Mimi’s Table

Mimi’s Table features classic French, Italian, and Southern-style dishes. The menu changes daily in accordance with the season with a focus on locally and regionally sourced products including fresh pasta, bread, fish, and desserts. Located at 1311 Miccosukee Road, and open Tuesday – Saturday from 5pm-10pm.

Bradley’s Country Store

Bradley’s Country Store remains a Tallahassee landmark as it’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places. They have been selling goods and smoking sausage for the community since 1927 and those lucky enough to pass through town and hear word will stop to try their food. Grits, mayhaw jelly, wildflower honey and other local favorites are always for sale, so join the locals and enjoy a famous Bradley’s Sausage Dog on the front porch.
