Tallahassee State College Fine Arts Gallery is hosting artist Ann Kozeliski for her solo show “Portraits in Passing”. More than 50 works created in eastern water color medium in Chinese Brush style on handmade paper. Framed works along with scroll portraits of individuals that the artist has seen during her daily travel, Kozeliski neither photographs nor sketches her subject, something about the energy of the moment locks into her minds eye and she brings it out her brush creating a portrait of a moment, not of the person, securing the privacy of the subject.
Included in the exhibit is an installation of 13 free hanging panels. Painted on organza, “portraits” of people of the street are painted on each, guests are encouraged to walk amongst them to experience the changing appearances of the images from transparent to opaque, living the metaphor of how street people are viewed.
An additional 12 painted scroll panels painted in the Chinese portrait style of no backgrounds, allow the viewers to create their own story of subject.
The noble Shopping Cart is portrayed in a series of six framed works. The Shopping Cart has become an iconic image of street life, providing transportation for all the worldly possessions that an individual may possess.
