Elizabeth Catlett overcame historical barriers for women and artists of color to become one of the most important Black artists of the 20th century. Her work blended art and social consciousness and confronted injustices against African Americans. This work is from the collection of artist and scholar Samella Lewis, a lifelong friend of Catlett who lived and worked in Tallahassee early in her career. This exhibition was organized by Landau Traveling Exhibitions, Los Angeles, CA.
