Downtown Chipley, Florida Kicks Off Economic Stimulus Promotion

Chipley, Florida

This historic downtown community in the Panhandle of Northwest Florida has decided not to embrace the negativity being expressed by national tourism and retail industries. In response to economic challenges affecting retail and service businesses, due in large part to rising gas prices, Chipley has kicked off a campaign to revitalize their downtown and surrounding area, spur tourist visitation and increase retail sales.

Using activities piggybacked on the upcoming 52nd Annual Panhandle Watermelon Festival on June 28 as a kickoff, the Chipley merchants have planned activities for the summer months ranging from a street fair to music concerts and automotive ‘cruise-ins’ to a variety of late night shopping events. A Value Card Program, appealing to customers with an offer of discounts and value-added goods and services, is already gaining attention for the business district and this historic area.

The recently launched web site www.DowntownChipley.com is being used to reach potential customers traveling to the Florida Panhandle or already vacationing on the Gulf of Mexico in nearby Panama City Beach.
