Tallahassee’s Own Showcase Art at Exhibit Public Exhibit Displays Employees’ Talents
Citizens may be used to seeing them responding to emergencies, repairing utility lines or processing paperwork, but many City of Tallahassee employees and retirees spend their free time on more artistic endeavors.
The work of 38 active and retired employees will be on display at the City Hall Art Gallery on the second floor of City Hall, 300 S. Adams St., from May 19 through June 17.
A public reception to celebrate the opening of the fourth annual TOWN Show will be held this Thursday, May 22, from 6-7:30 p.m. at the gallery. The public is invited to meet the City employees and retirees who double as gifted artists and review the displayed works.
A variety of mediums are used in the 81 pieces in the show. Pottery, watercolors, jewelry, sculptures, photography, paintings and more present a range of subjects, moods and designs from the minds of these talented artists.
TOWN refers to ‘Tallahassee’s Own,’ recognizing the employee artists who provide quality service to citizens each day and retirees whose past work has contributed to the City’s excellent reputation. This year’s show features employees and retirees from 15 different departments within the organization. An employee committee worked closely with the Council on Culture & Arts to generate entries, and a jury of local artists selected the works for display.
The City Hall Art Gallery is open to the public weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For more information, contact Frank Dietrich at 891-6414.
