Get out of the city and explore some of Tallahassee’s best trails. We’re highlighting 10 of our personal favorites, but with over 700 miles of wide-open trails, there are plenty more to explore at Trailahassee.com. You can search by terrain, activity, skill level, and more, so finding the path to the perfect getaway is only a few clicks away.

Lafayette Heritage Trail

Whether you are an advanced hiker or a novice, Lafayette Heritage Trail is the perfect place to explore Mother Nature. The beautiful unpaved paths that curve around Piney Z Lake offer breathtaking views of the woodlands, picturesque sights of the lake, and majestic glimpses of local wildlife—turtles, alligators, and native birds. These trails are perfect for trail runners, water-sport aficionados, wildlife lovers, and mountain bikers.

Miccosukee Greenway Trail

If you’re looking for a trail that’s challenging at any skill level, head to Miccosukee Greenway Trail. This 8-mile path boasts diverse scenery and extreme changes in terrain, where you’ll enjoy everything from flat and open trails to heavily wooded and hilly paths. This beautifully maintained trail is the ideal destination for walking, running, nature watching and cycling.

J.R. Alford Greenway Trail

In terms of outdoor spaces, the J.R. Alford Greenway is one of Tallahassee’s most popular parks. With more than 17 miles of multi-use trails, this park features a crushed oyster shell path, beautiful wooded forests, and a gorgeous, wooden boardwalk bridge. These well-maintained paths are great for running, walking, horseback riding, bird watching, and cycling.

St. Marks Historic Trail

Tracing the route of Florida’s first and longest-operating railroad, the St. Marks Historic Trail is a great option for hiking, biking, running, or skating. This paved trail runs 20.5 miles from Florida’s Capital City to the coastal community of St. Marks.

Wakulla Springs Trail

Discover one of Florida’s most picturesque and unique areas at Wakulla Springs. With 10 miles of pristine trails, this unpaved natural path features gorgeous views of the world’s largest and deepest freshwater spring, a graded footpath beneath tall loblolly pines, and a bridge spanning Sally Ward Spring. These magnificent trails are perfect for hiking, trail running, nature viewing, and bird watching and when you’re done, cool off by jumping into the refreshing spring water.

Apalachee Regional Park Trails

Showcasing one of Tallahassee’s best running trails, Apalachee Regional Park offers opportunities for running, hiking, mountain biking, and cycling. This multi-use park includes one of the nation’s few sites designed specifically for cross-country running with multi-surface courses, numerous distance options through rolling hills, and a 1-mile warm-up trail. This site has hosted state, regional and national championships and we invite you to take a few laps and run in the footsteps of the worlds’ best runners.

Cascades Park Trail

Located in the heart of downtown and directly south of the Florida State Capitol, this 24-acre park and natural playground offers a variety of outdoor and recreational amenities. This includes an amphitheater, interactive water fountain, children’s play area, Smokey Hollow Commemoration, and multi-use trails.

These winding trails are perfect for walking, jogging or biking. There are three main trails in Cascades Park, the whole park loop (1 mile), Bocha Chuba Pond loop (0.65 mile) and the Smokey Hollow Pond loop (0.5 mile). Altogether, the trails make up 2.3 miles of paved pathways.

Leon Sinks Geological Area Hiking Trail

Witness karst topography at its finest as you wind through the unique terrain of nearly 6 miles of hiking trails inside Leon Sinks Geological Area. This beautiful park contains miles of trails leading to a series of sinkholes, big and small.

You can choose from 3 different trails totaling over 5 miles of hiking. Each trail features over 20 species of trees and 75 different plants, along with wildlife including gopher tortoises, deer, turkey, hawks, raccoons, snakes, and salamanders. All trails are considered beginner level and are great for people of all ages to explore.

Cost: $3/day for parking.

Lake Overstreet Trail

Bicyclists, joggers, hikers, and horseback riders all find an enjoyable off-road experience on the Lake Overstreet Trails. These paths are smooth with few roots, making them beginner-friendly. However, with the paths dipping in and out of deep ravines, they’re still fun and challenging for hikers of all levels. These trails connect with Alfred B. Maclay Gardens and make a wonderful side-trip that is worth exploring.

Orchard Pond Trail

The unpaved Orchard Pond Road trail spans for 3.43 miles and offers plenty of fun, outdoor recreational activities to its visitors. As the newest addition of Leon County’s trail system, the natural environment attracts hikers, bikers, runners and equestrians.

The trailhead can be accessed via Old Bainbridge Road where accommodations for horse trailers and passenger vehicles are available. Another trailhead that can only be accessed by passenger vehicles is located at Orchard Pond Parkway off the toll road.
